  POLICY STATEMENT

  POLICY STATEMENT

In order to foster freedom of expression and artistic creativity through College-sponsored media activities, the administration of Delgado Community College does not, under normal circumstances, practice pre-release or pre-publication censorship of media projects or artistic efforts by students. The primary responsibility for content management in such projects or efforts rests with the students themselves, as creators of works in question.

Therefore, views expressed in student-operated media of the College--such as The Dolphin newspaper, the Images literary magazine, DTV (Delgado Television) and similar student-engendered print, broadcast and electronic media--or those found in other artistic and creative endeavors by students do not necessarily reflect the official positions of the College administration, faculty, staff, or student body.

However, libelous or potentially libelous materials in student works may be flagged and removed by the faculty or staff advisor in the area in question, acting either under his/her own judgement or in consultation with any existing advisory committee in the area. In addition, the College-wide Student Publications Committee can be called upon to serve in an advisory capacity on such matters. These processes are designed to provide reasonable safeguards for the College without stifling responsible freedom of expression essential to the growth of the students as citizens of a democratic nation.
