    POLICY STATEMENT

    The primary goal of Delgado Community College is to provide high quality occupational and
    pre-baccalaureate programs to the people of the Greater New Orleans area. Delgado realizes,
    however, that as an institution of higher education, its responsibility to the community cannot be met
    solely through its regular academic offerings. For this reason, the College is committed to providing
    a variety of additional services to meet special community needs. Among these are:

    - Specialized educational programs, both credit and non-credit, that respond to
    identified needs;
    - Outreach to the community, by encouraging students and College faculty and staff to
    participate in civic, cultural, service and similar activities;
    - Support of educational programs at local secondary schools;
    - Inviting community groups to use College facilities where appropriate; and
    - Support and encouragement of activities that contribute to an improved quality of life
    in the Greater New Orleans area.

    In assessing the extent to which it has met its public service commitment, the College will
    employ both quantitative and qualitative measures. At the end of the academic year, each unit of the
    College will prepare a report to be submitted to the appropriate Vice Chancellor. This report will
    describe the public service activities undertaken by the unit and the number of individuals affected
    by the activity. In addition, the report will include a summary of client/participant responses
    regarding the quality of the activity and suggestions for future improvement.

    Each Vice Chancellor will compile information from units within his/her area, and will
    forward a synopsis to the Chancellor and to the appropriate planning group(s) for incorporation into
    the planning process for the following year.
