    POLICY STATEMENT
     
    Subject to the approval of the Board of Supervisors for the Louisiana Community and
    Technical College System (LCTCS), Delgado Community College is authorized to confer an
    Honorary Associate of Arts in Humane Letters to any individual who has made significant
    contributions in his/her respective field of endeavor, including civic engagement, community
    development, or the institution’s advancement. In accordance with LCTCS Policy #1.041,
    Honorary Degrees,
    and Louisiana Revised Statute 17:3352, honorary degrees are conferred by vote
    of the Board upon recommendation of the President of the Louisiana Community and Technical
    College System, the Chancellor, and the Vice Chancellor for Learning and Student Development. In
    addition, the following requirements apply.
     
    (1) Honorary degrees shall not be granted in a specific discipline.
     
    (2) Honorary degrees shall not be printed in a manner to be mistaken as an earned
    degree granted by the College.
     
    (3) Two categories of individuals are excluded from receiving honorary degrees--
    faculty or staff members currently employed at the granting institution and
    Louisiana elected and/or appointed officials in office at the time of selection and
    conferral.
     
    (4) To emphasize and preserve the value of honorary degrees, the College is limited
    to awarding a maximum of two honorary degrees per academic year.

    (5) Faculty and staff members of the College are encouraged to recommend
    individuals who have made significant achievements in their fields of endeavor.
    Such recommendations must be submitted in writing, with supporting
    documentation describing the individual’s accomplishments, to the Vice
    Chancellor for Learning and Student Development for review and consideration
