POLICY STATEMENT

The purpose of the College's health services includes the provision of emergency and first aid care to Delgado students, faculty and staff. In addition, health services contribute to the educational experience of students by promoting a healthy atmosphere for living and studying as part of the College experience.

Health services stress cooperative interaction with the College community to disseminate information about healthy lifestyles and preventive health issues and to react as necessary to public health problems. Health services also provide guidance to students who are in need of additional medical care.

The College's health services maintain these ongoing goals:

1.  To emphasize the prevention of illness by promoting wellness, nutrition awareness, and health education through services including consultation with a registered nurse, health fairs, substance abuse seminars, and distribution of educational materials and presentation of other health-related programs on topics of interests to students.

2.  To notify Emergency Medical Services in the event of any medical emergency and to provide appropriate medical referrals for the evaluation of other health problems.

3.  To provide Campus Police who are trained in CPR.

4.  To ensure student immunization compliance with Louisiana state requirements.

5.  To promote a safe physical environment for faculty, staff and students.

6.  To publicize the availability of the College's health services offerings to all Delgado campuses and off-campus sites.

7.  To provide information on available student accident and sickness insurance.

8.  To forward workmen's compensation reports for employee injuries and to report all student injury reports to the Office of Human Resources.
