Curriculum Committee Meeting was called to order at 2:06 p.m. by Harold Gaspard, Chairman.

The Minutes of the meeting of February 25 were moved for acceptance, with no amendments.

 Certificate of Technical Studies – Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

i.   Thirteen (13) New Syllabi (see attachment) [Estella Lain/Debra Redfearn] Motion to accept proposal pending revisions. Motion carried with one abstention.

ii.   Course Description for the Catalog [Mary Bartholomew/Debra Redfearn] Motion to accept proposal pending revisions. Motion carried with one abstention.

iii.   Program Description for the Catalog [Mary Bartholomew/Estella Lain] Motion to accept proposal. Motion carried with one abstention.

iv.   Curriculum [Sheila Hickman/Estella Lain] Motion to accept proposal pending revisions. Motion carried with one abstention.

 

B.   Business and Technology/CULA:

i. Course Revision:

   Remove prerequisites in the college catalog for the following courses

CULA 209, CULA 214, CULA 215, HOST 221 [Estella Lain/Debra Redfearn] Motion to accept proposal. Motion carried unanimously.

ii. New Program:

Certificate of Technical Studies in Culinary Management. [Debra Redfearn/Sheila Hickman] Motion to accept proposal with amendments. Motion carried unanimously.

 


VI. New Business


  A. Allied Health:

i.   Course Revision:

PHAR 102 Pharmacy Practice is currently comprised of lecture and lab under one course heading. We would like to separate the laboratory component of PHAR 102 and reduce credit hours to 3-0-3/45 to reflect just the lecture component. Current credit PHAR 102 (3-2-4/75) Changes: PHAR 102 – lecture (3-0-3/45) and PHAR 106 – lab (0-3-1/45) [Sheila Hickman/ Debra Redfearn] Motion to accept proposal with amendments. Motion carried unanimously.

 

ii.   New Course:

Create PHAR 106 Pharmacy Practice Laboratory as a separate component to accompany PHAR 102. Current Credit PHAR 102 (3-2-4/75) Changes: PHAR 102 (3-0-3/45) and PHAR 106 (0-3-1/45). [Sheila Hickman/ Debra Redfearn] Motion to accept proposal. Motion carried unanimously.

 

iii.   Course Revision:

To change PHAR 104 Pharmacy for the Pharmacy Technician I credit hours from 4-0-4/60 to 3-0-3/45. Will be followed in the second semester with PHAR 114 Pharmacology for the Pharmacy Technician II (3-0-3/45) – a new course. (These two courses will combine for 6 credits, a redistribution of the 2 credit reduction of PHAR 151) [Sheila Hickman/ Debra Redfearn] Motion to accept proposal. Motion carried unanimously.

 

iv.   New Course:

New Course PHAR 114 Pharmacology for the Pharmacy Technician II credit hours 3-0-3/45. This will be a second semester course, following PHAR 104 Pharmacology for the Pharmacy Technician I. [Sheila Hickman/ Debra Redfearn] Motion to accept proposal. Motion carried unanimously.

 

v.   Course Revision:

PHAR 110 Sterile Products currently is comprised of lecture and laboratory under one course heading. We propose to separate the laboratory component of PHAR 110 and reduce credit hours from 2-2-3/60 to 2-0-2/30. Current credit PHAR 110 (2-2-3/60) Changes: PHAR 110 – lecture (2-0-2/30) and PHAR 112 – lab (0-2-1/30) [Sheila Hickman/ Debra Redfearn] Motion to accept proposal with amendments. Motion carried unanimously.

 

vi.   New Course:

Create PHAR 112 Sterile Products Laboratory to accompany PHAR 110 (lecture) 0-2-1/30

PHAR 110 Sterile products currently is comprised of lecture and laboratory under one course heading. We propose to separate the laboratory component with the creation of PHAR 112. Current credit PHAR 110 (2-2-3/60) Changes: PHAR 110 – lecture (2-0-2/30) and PHAR 112 – lab (0-2-1/30). [Sheila Hickman/ Debra Redfearn] Motion to accept proposal. Motion carried unanimously.

 

 

 

vii.   Course Revision:

Reduce PHAR 151 credit hours from 0-36-8/500 to 0-26-6-400 and change name to Pharmacy Clinical Practice (from 8 credits to 6) due to changes in LA Board of Pharmacy regulations regarding training hours. [Sheila Hickman/ Debra Redfearn] Motion to accept proposal. Motion carried unanimously.

Removal of all prerequisites in ELCT 102, 104, 109, 111 [Mary Bartholomew/Harold Gaspard] Motion to accept proposal. Motion carried unanimously.

i.   Approval of program description in Safety and Health Technology. [Mary Bartholomew/Debra Redfearn] Motion to accept proposal. Motion carried unanimously.

ii.   Approval of curriculum for the new Certificate of Technical Studies Program in Safety and Health Technology. [Estella Lain/Mary Bartholomew] Motion to accept proposal. Motion carried unanimously.

   Change MOVH 154 Automotive Hydraulics and Pneumatics to MOVH 154 Auto Brakes

Change MOVH 156 Automotive Hydraulics and Pneumatics Lab to MOVH 156 Auto Brakes Lab. [Estella Lain/Debra Redfearn] Motion to accept proposal. Motion carried unanimously.

 

ii.   New TCA:

Add a New TCA in Automotive Painting, using existing courses. [Lester Adelsberg/Mary Bartholomew] Motion to accept proposal. Motion carried unanimously.

Change in curriculum for the Motor Vehicle Technology Associate of Applied Science Degree:

  Remove MOVH 240 and MOVH 242 from “required courses in major”

  Change Area of Concentration in Required Courses in Major from 12-15 to 15-16.

  Change “Approved Electives” to read: Choose an additional 9 hours from courses with the following prefixes: COOP and/or MOVH

  Delete “Auto Mechanics and Diesel Mechanics” Concentrations.

  Add General Automotive Concentration:
