EMERGENCY PLAN

for

 

HOSTAGE SITUATION

 

 

Witness to a hostage situation:

 

If the hostage–taker is unaware of your presence, DO NOT INTERVENE!

 

•

 

Notify building administrator. Building administrator may wish to initiate lockdown

procedures or evacuation.

•

 

Call

911

. Give dispatcher details of situation.

•

 

Seal off area near hostage scene.

•

 

Police will take control of hostage scene; building administrator coordinates with

police for safety and welfare of students and staff.

•

 

Document all activities.

 

If taken hostage:

 

 

•

 

Cooperate with hostage–taker to the fullest extent possible.

•

 

Try not to panic. Calm students if they are present.

•

 

Treat the hostage–taker as normally as possible.

•

 

Be respectful to the hostage–taker.

•

 

Ask permission to speak; do not argue or make suggestions.
