    SUMMARY
The following analysis is derived from the data collected from the students of randomly selected classes who
filled out the ACT/AACC Faces of the Future during the fall semesters for the years 1999 and 2002.
    Demographics
    • There were 12.4% more Caucasians sampled in 2002 compared to 1999. The Delgado 2002 sample contained 54.6%
Caucasians while, according to the Delgado 2002 14th Class Day Report, only 36.4% of students were Caucasians.
    • 32.4% African Americans were sampled at Delgado in 2002 while the 14th Class Day Report for that year contained
    44.4%.
    • Compared to the 2002 national sample, Delgado's sample contained 20.9% more African Americans and 16.3 less
    Caucasians.
    • Only 23.1% of sampled Delgado students in 2002 were twenty or younger compared to the national sample of 48.7%.
How Have Our Students Changed Since 1999
    • Fewer Delgado students (35.4%) were employed full time in 2002, compared to 46% of students in 1999. However,
this is still higher than the 2002 national sample of 28.7%.
    • Fewer Delgado students (38.4%) reported working 31 to 40 hours a week in 2002, 18.4% less than in 1999. However,
8.3% more students worked over 40 hours a week.
How Our Students Differ From The National Sample (2002)
    • In 2002, 46.9% of Delgado students held a full time job, 17.7% more than their nationally sampled cohorts.

    below 20,000 dollars.
    • In 2002, 40.2% of students at Delgado indicated that they were their households major wage earner, 4.1% higher than
    the national cohort.
    • 77.8% of Delgado students in 2002 did not receive any money from their employer to pay educational expenses, 23.7%
    less than those sampled nationally.

How Our Students Differ From The National Sample (2002) cont.
    • 9.1% of Delgado students indicated that their highest academic level was a General Equivalence Diploma (GED) 2.3%
    more than students surveyed nationally.
    • 9.7% more Delgado students are parents than the national cohort.
    • In the past two years the most significant experience for students was a change or loss of job. At Delgado 53.8% of
students indicated this, compared to 47.1% nationally.
    • More Delgado students reported that they could not have attended college without the financial aid they received. The
Delgado rating was 3.71 out of 5, compared to 3.53 nationally.
    Delgado's Students 2002
    • Approximately 50% indicated that the highest level of education attained by their parents was a High School Diploma
    or less.
    • The top two reasons for taking their current course or program were to meet requirements for a chosen occupation
(77.3%) and to develop their mind and intellectual abilities (75.4%).
    • Their three most important goals are to have a steady job, to have time for personal/family interests and to be selfrelian
    t
    • The most important factor in deciding to attend Delgado was the fact that we offered a particular program of study.
    • Students' personal financial problems are their toughest challenge. Cost and/or availability of books and transportation
    were also significant challenges.
    • 80% have access to the web and email at home.
    • 80% of Delgado students surveyed said they use the internet or World Wide Web once a week or more, slightly higher
    than the nationally sampled students.
    • 3.6% indicated that they had never used the internet or World Wide Web, this is lower than the nationally sampled
cohort, even though Delgado students have a higher percentage of lower household incomes.
